Check & Connect Preparation and Implementation Training is a 1-day training that provides education administrators and lead staff with a thorough overview of Check & Connect and its background and how to prepare their site for implementing Check & Connect.

Objectives

Participants will learn and understand —

• The core components and elements of Check & Connect
• The context for Check & Connect, including the process of disengagement and the risk factors associated with dropping out
• How Check & Connect was developed, its theoretical underpinnings, and its evidence base
• Steps for preparing for and implementing Check & Connect at their sites
  • Aligning Check & Connect with current initiatives
  • Identifying the indicators of disengagement at their site
  • Designating a coordinator and hiring mentors
  • Systematically monitoring student data and identifying appropriate interventions for reengaging students
  • Strengthening the family-school relationship
  • Monitoring the person-environment fit
  • Evaluating the implementation and effectiveness of Check & Connect at their site

Who Should Attend

This training is designed for education administrators and lead staff (decision-making stakeholders) interested in preparing for and implementing Check & Connect. Researchers, community professionals, and others interested in the Check & Connect model are also welcome to attend.

Limited to 30 participants.

Location

The training will be held at McNamara Alumni Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota, 200 Oak St. SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455.

Lodging

This training is offered prior to the 2019 Student Engagement Conference: Solutions for Success to be held July 24-25, 2019. For more information or to register for the conference as well as the training, go to our conference page.

Room blocks have been secured at The Graduate Hotel and Doubletree Minneapolis University. You must book your hotel by June 21, 2019 to receive the conference/training rate.

If paying by purchase order (PO):

• DO NOT send payment until you receive an invoice voucher from the University of Minnesota in the mail.
• Obtain PO number and billing contact information prior to registering.
• Make PO payable to The Regents of the University of Minnesota, with the payment address of: Regents of the University of Minnesota, NW 5960, PO Box 1450, Minneapolis MN 55485-5960.
• If your organization is tax exempt, include your tax-exempt ID when registering and a copy of the exemption certificate with your materials. 
• Upon registration, you must email or fax your registration confirmation with a PO (and tax exempt certificate, if applicable) to: Melissa Critchley, checkandconnect@umn.edu, 612-624-9344 (fax).

Cancellation and Refund Policy

No refunds are provided after the registration deadline. If canceling before the registration deadline a $100 administrative fee will be deducted from your refund. Note that if you are not able to attend, you may substitute another person without incurring the administrative fee by editing your registration here online or contacting us at checkandconnect@umn.edu or 1-866-434-0010.

Minimum Attendance

We reserve the right to cancel this event if we do not meet our minimum of 20 registered participants by the registrataion deadline in which case a full refund will be provided. We will notify any registered participants via email or phone within 2 business days following the registration deadline if this event is cancelled.

On-site Trainings

Schools and organizations may request on-site training to prepare local staff to implement each component of Check & Connect. One great plus to having our staff come to you is that you also receive pre- and post-training consultation to determine your specific needs (in preparation for the training) and to assist with implementation (follow-up). The cost is determined based on number of participants.
